Fans Release Full Spanish Translation of Shin Megami Tensei IV

Fan group Proyecto Amala has announced that they have completed their 5-year long Spanish (Castilian) translation project of Shin Megami Tensei IV. This ambitious fan effort initially began in 2017 by a single individual. However, after acquiring the required tools from Fan Translators Inc., the project evolved, and many other members joined. This project makes SMT IV fully playable in Spanish, down to texture changes.

Proyecto Amala has also completed Spanish translations of Devil Survivor 1, Devil Survivor 2, Persona 3 FES, Shin Megami Tensei I, and Shin Megami Tensei II. In addition, they have also just begun work on a Spanish fan translation of the 3DS version of Soul Hackers.

The team members responsible for the recently released Shin Megami Tensei IV Spanish fan translation are listed below:

  • Translators: Seta, Aleix, Hadouken, krix, Megaflan, Ryuusuke, Gross, Óscar73
  • Proofreaders: Shiryu, RodMerida, Spike, Valcat, Megaflan
  • Graphic Editors: Darkmet98, Megaflan, GriffithVIII
  • Rom Hacking: Megaflan, Fan Translations Int.
  • Beta Testing: Leeg, Ryuusuke and Megaflan.
  • Acknowledgments: Leeg (Initial corrections) and Fan Translations Int. (For all the help offered since the beginning of the project).

Team member Megaflan stated the following regarding the choice of using Castilian:

We chose Castilian Spanish, because we are talking about a game starting in some sort of European medieval kingdom in 1492. There’s a lot of contrast since the game plays a lot with the language, uniting many aspects of both old and modern Spanish. We also used Castilian because… all of the translators were from Spain, including myself, so at the end, it was the most logical way of dealing with this [choice of which Spanish to use].

Congratulations to this team for accomplishing such a lofty goal and making Shin Megami Tensei IV more accessible to vaster crowds. Good luck to them regarding their future endeavors!

Shin Megami Tensei V is now available for Nintendo Switch.
